What is Khanapara Teer?
Teer (from the Hindi word for arrow, तीर) is an archery-based game run in Meghalaya, Northeast India. It's not a random lottery — results come from actual arrows hitting an actual target, which makes it pretty unique.
Here's how it works: 50 archers line up and shoot arrows at a cylindrical bamboo target. In the first round, each archer gets 30 arrows. In the second round, 20 arrows each. After each round, officials count the total arrows stuck in the target. The winning number is simply the last two digits of that count. So if 847 arrows hit, the result is 47.
The Khanapara counter sits near the Assam-Meghalaya border, close to Guwahati — which is why people also call it Assam Teer or Guwahati Teer. Games run daily except Sundays and occasional holidays.
